Twitter's step towards password security

Social networking site Twitter has banned 370 words it considers ‘too obvious’ to be used as passwords.

Twitter rejects certain words like ‘123456’ and ‘password’ to be used as passwords because it thinks they are too easy to guess and put users data at risk.

Along with, names of famous cars such as ‘porsche’ and ‘ferrari’, and football teams like ‘Chelsea’ and ‘Arsenal’ are also banned. A few science fiction words are also a part of the banned word list of the website.

‘THX1138’-- title of the first film by Star Wars fame director George Lucas, is banned. So is ‘NCC1701’ -- the registry number of Star Trek’s starship Enterprise -- and ‘trustno1’, Fox Mulder’s password in The X-Files, the report said.

A recent research by insurer CPP has shown that people are often too predictable when it comes to choosing passwords.

Security experts advise that a strong password should consist of letters, numbers and even punctuation symbols. They should be changed regularly and one should not use the same password for their online services.

Twitter Disasters

Follow some Guidelines below if you want to protect yourself against unfortunate disasters. i mean protect your Twitts:- your twitter updates

Twitter Never Forgets: With a little effort one can dig out your twitts after months even as there is no approval method who follows you. Anybody can read your tweets sometime land you in trouble. So it is better protect your updates. Click settings and check the Protect My Update Box, by which your tweets will not be visible to anyone approved as a follower. But, anything you have tweet out already will be available, especially on third party Twitter interface.

Locking Out Twitter Twits: Never bash a person in Twitter, they can get on you easily. You can make your account protected, block a user on Twitter in the "Action" section on the profile page removing you from his follower list and prevents your updates from displaying in his page. But your current friends can still copy and paste your tweets or save them through screen capture.

Linking Twitter with Others: It will be disaster if you link Twitter with others like Facebook. So be careful when you link Twitter with other applications. Even your employer or future employer can know about you before you can realize.

Twitter to be honoured a Nobel Peace Prize

Twitter to be honoured a Nobel
22nd July,2009 Aditya Bikram Singh

Source : http://videos.webpronews.com/2009/07/14/twitter-to-get-a-nobel-peace-prize/

Well the next time you surf the net you may bump into a Nobel peace prize candidate . A US security expert has proposed the honour for the micro blogging site TWITTER , which helped the protesters in Iran beat censorship and tell their tale to the world.

The free social messaging utility uniquely documented and personalized the story of hope , heroism and horror in Iran, says Mark Pfeifle , former deputy national security adviser for strategic communications and global outreach at the US National security council.

Pfeifle from the Christian Science Monitor

''he video gave substance to what seemed so far away .We saw the look in her eyes as they went lifeless. We heard the sounds of her friends and family as they begged her to hold on . And she became the personification of the struggle for democracy in a country where voices for freedom are quelled.''

When the journalists were forced to leave Iran , Twitter became a window to the world to view hope ,heroism and horror . It became the assignment desk , the reporter and the producer.

And because of this Twitter and its creators are worthy of being considered for the Nobel peace prize . Twitter and other social media outlets have become the soft weapons of democracy . For those reasons, Twitter deserves consideration for the Nobel peace prize.
