The most annoying thing about RapidShare is that downloads doesn't begin immediately. Users are first required to click on FREE and then wait till the counter gets to zero, which can take up to a minute, and then click on Download. Only then does the file download commence. If you move away to other sites during the wait period and then forget about it, after some time the session expires and you have to start all over again.




But using userscripts in Firefox you can automate this entire process. Two Greasemoneky scripts that does it are Rapidshare Flukke's autodownloader and Rapidshare Robot. If you don't already have Greasemonkey, then download it and install any of the two scripts.
Now when you open a Rapidshare link in a tab, the script will automatically click on the FREE button, wait for the counter to finish counting and then automatically click on the download button and start downloading. No user intervention is required. These scripts make downloading from Rapidshare just like any other file download.

For the First time I'm going to provide you here a list of Freewares that I've used for about 3 years now and satisfy enough with their ability. The List is greatly contributed by Maxmillian_X who posted it on May 8,2009.

Enjoy - every product here is one that I use or have used. :)

System cleanup utility (good for routine system maintenance) - CCleaner, nCleaner Second - both are quality, but I would say CCleaner is a more intuitive to use. You can do a lot of damage with nCleaner Second if you are not careful!

Defragmenting your hard disk - JKDefrag (for more of you techie folks), Defraggler - Windows defragment is OK, but JKDefrag is quicker, and does a lot more optimization (move large files to the end of the volume, for example). Defraggler is a bit more user-friendly when it comes to appearance. Both are quality products.

Create PDFs - PDFCreator - Creates a new printer in your control panel, and allows you to convert anything that you print to a PDF.

Read PDFs - Foxit PDF reader - Nice non-resource intensive PDF reading software.

Antivirus - Avast 4.8 Home, AVG 8.0, - You should NEVER surf without some form of AV installed. Avast! is nice because it can scan your system for viruses while the screen saver is active, and protects your PC against multiple vectors. Honorable mentions: Avira AntiVir. Want free AV for a Windows server? Use ClamWin (no real-time scanner, so you will have to run scheduled scans, but it works VERY well).

Spyware Protection - Ad-Aware 2008 (not a real-time scanner), ThreatFire, SuperAntiSpyware - Spyware sucks, and these tools do a great job of cleaning them up. I would recommend installing a combination of these utilities, using one to clean-up after the other.


IE Spy/Malware Protection - IE-SpyAds - This will keep 99% of activex components from being installed on your system through IE. If you are going to use IE, you should use it with *ahem* protection.

Firewall - Comodo - Very configurable - looks sharp, excellent reviews (replacing Kerio).

Remote Control (Technical Support) - CrossLoop - This one is great for consultants and other at-home tech folks - totally secure and SO easy to use. Crossloop makes remote controlling mom's computer a dream. CrossLoop now supports Mac!

Remote Control (Extending your office) - Logmein - Access your computer from a secure (256-bit encrypted) connection. You don't need someone on the other end to approve your connection (like Crossloop).

Screenshot Utility - FastStone Capture 5.3. If you can find it, use it. Newer versions are not free. Can't find it? Use Easy Capture. Are you an advanced user? Screen Captor is superior to both utilities.

VPN - Hamachi - Connect two disparate networks together with little trouble. Great for hooking up with your buddies for online gaming, or home "family" support over the Internet.

File Recovery - PC Inspector File Restore, Recuva - Did you accidentally delete your files from your digital camera? Use this to restore it. Good for system drives as well.

Internet Browsing - FireFox - Tabbed browsing, all sorts of great add-ons available, spyware/popup blocker, best of all NO activex support.

Email Client - Thunderbird - Built in spam protection, RSS reader and more.

FTP Client - FileZilla, WinSCP - Secure FTP, save your sessions, easy drag & drop interface.

Office Productivity - Microsoft Live Office (online), Google Docs (online), Open Office (local install). The non-MS apps are MS Office compatible. Text, Spreadsheet, Presentation software -These will do for 90% of your low to middle of the road users.

Zip Archiving - IZArc - New to the list is 'IZArc', recommended by fellow freeware addict, Carputers. I have to agree. If you use WinZip, then you can use IZArc. Excellent interface, supports the widest amount of archive formats, great features, just great all around!

Keep track of startup programs - Sysinternals AutoRuns - Excellent tool to discover what the heck is running at startup - definitely for advanced users. Can produce a CSV file for viewing later (or to post to online support forums), etc. VERY thorough. You can use this to help you clean up malware that is slowing down your system. Also recommended is Hijack This, which features a huge user-community.

Graphics Editing - The Gimp - EXCELLENT freebie editor with a lot of built-in effects and layering capability. If you like the Photoshop interface, you can try GimpShop. Want something simpler? Use Paint.net.

Image Touch Ups, Photo Processing - Picasa - Easy to use program that can help you catalog, view, burn, and touch-up photographs. Also, you can use Picasa to upload photos to your blog, and submit them to online digital image printing services. A digital camera's best friend.

Image Thumbnail Viewer - The classic, Irfanview, my personal favorite - FastStone Viewer and another popular one, XNView.

CD Burning - CD Burner XP Pro - Supports burning from/to ISO image files, audio CD's, DVDs, etc. - Especially nice if you have a burner, but no longer have the OEM burning software that came with it. Other quality apps are Infra Recorder and Express Burner Free.

Backup software - Syncback - Backup to/from an FTP location, compress and encrypt data, supports directory synchronization, and much, much more.

DVD viewing (video) - VLC Media Player - Play your DVD/VCD/MPEG videos from a single player. Works GREAT! You can use VLC to watch DVDs without re-installing the OEM DVD software. You can also use it to convert videos (transcode).

Video conversion - Any Video Converter Free. Convert a video file to a myriad of different formats, great for copying videos to your IPod, Zune, or other personal media player.


Video codecs - K-Lite codec pack - this will enable your computer to play just about any video type out there.

RSS News Reader - Google Reader (online), FeedDemon NewsGator (which now will synchronize with Google Reader!) -Keep up with your online news and blogs (*ahem*, like this one?).

Multi-IM/chat client - Pidgin, and if you don't use IRC, then Digsby is for you!

I was browsing as usual and comes to know an interesting news about AVG, one of the most popular anti-virus programs, is causing confusion today by wrongly identifying iTunes files as trojans. After updating its virus definitions, the anti-virus software finds up to 181 “viruses” in iTunes: attempting to quarantine the files prevents iTunes from working. The supposed virus name is “trojan horse small.bog”. This is the news what I've read from the post by Pete Cashmore in mashable on 24th July. Its really an interesting news and stimulates me to write something which I think I should share with you there.
Though AVG is a popular anti-virus program but it has some bug always, either their present updates or previous versions. Its Free software is worse and may be harmful for many of the individuals who uses it. This is my opinion on AVG coz, I suffered once from it despite having full control over it. It fails to protect you in a real-Time.

This is what my view. For the other part of the story what APPLE do to protect their products from False Positive generated by AVG go on to read further





An extensive thread in the Apple discussion forums shows that AVG is giving a false positive: there’s no risk of trojans in iTunes, and quarantining the files will break your iTunes install. You can disable the alerts by creating an exception in AVG:

1. Open AVG

2. Go to Resident Shield -> Manage Exceptions -> Add Path

3. Add C:\Program Files\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iPod

AVG will no doubt correct the issue in their next definitions update.

I know in India many, I mean majority of them belongs to middle class and unable to afford for the broadband connections. Still it would be helpful for the students and others in the field of education.
This got a premium domain name with a wide variety of content and community features that focus on helping parents play a more active role in their children’s education.
Current social features include discussion boards, groups, and photo galleries, all of which include tagging. Parents will likely find the tags the most useful feature, as they aggregate content from the different aspects of the site and link you to it. For example, viewing the “Reading” tag will link you to relevant articles, message board discussions, and user generated content.

On 20th July, it is reported by a person of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh that he has received fake notes from the SBI ATM. There are reports from some of the other places also. The RBI has issued the following guide lines in this respect to the all banks.Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that few instances of counterfeit currency being dispensed through ATMs has come to their notice.

To protect customers and depositors interest, various steps have been taken by Government/ RBI, which include, issue of directions/guidelines to banks as follows.

(i) To disburse only sorted and genuine notes over their counters and through ATMs.

(ii) Note Sorting Machines to be installed at all the currency chest maintaining branches and 210 non chest branches to enable banks to detect counterfeit notes at the entry level.

(iii) To establish Forged Note Verification Cells at the Head Offices of the Banks to take effective steps to deal with counterfeiting.

(iv) To impound the counterfeit notes and lodge FIR with Police Authorities.

Further, the Reserve Bank of India has also been conducting training programs for employees/ officers of banks and other organizations handling large amount of cash. RBI has also been popularizing the security features of the bank notes through its website, posters displayed at branches of the bank etc. A film depicting the security features of a genuine note has also been released in theatres besides being exhibited by Regional Offices of RBI at various exhibitions, bus stations/railway stations etc.

This information was given by Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena in written reply to a question raised in Rajya Sabha.

1. Yahoo! began as a student hobby and evolved into a global brand that has changed the way people communicate with each other, find and access information and purchase things. The two founders of Yahoo!, David Filo and Jerry Yang, Ph.D. candidates in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, started their guide in a campus trailer in February 1994 as a way to keep track of their personal interests on the Internet. Before long they were spending more time on their home-brewed lists of favorite links than on their doctoral dissertations. Eventually, Jerry and David's lists became too long and unwieldy, and they broke them out into categories. When the categories became too full, they developed subcategories ... and the core concept behind Yahoo! was born.

The Web site started out as "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" but eventually received a new moniker with the help of a dictionary. The name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," but Filo and Yang insist they selected the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth." Yahoo! itself first resided on Yang's student workstation, "Akebono," while the software was lodged on Filo's computer, "Konishiki" - both named after legendary sumo wrestlers.

Hence the working name was Linux (Linus' Minix).
He thought the name to be too egotistical and planned to name it Freax (free + freak + x).

Ari gave Linus a directory called linux on his FTP server, as he did not like the name Freax.

He was three months late in filing a name for the business because he didn't get any better name for his new company.

so he kept the name of the company 'Apple Computers'

In NUTSHELL you had to do only 3 things

1. Enter your cel no. into USER NAME/NO. Field (If it is blank)
2. Change access point / APN to airtelfun.com or airtelmms.com
3. Configuring your application for following proxy setting…

- If u r using airtelfun.com
IP Addr : 100.1.200.99
Port no. 8080

- If u r using airtelmms.com
IP Addr : 100.1.201.172
Port No. 8799

That all about settings!

No! Its not any tricks and hacks that results to free GPRS or free Internet accessing, by using Airtel. Neither I'm into giving you those APNs,IPs, Port Nos. which causes to access you free Mobile Office, Airtel Live etc. All these are just fake and nothing else.

Those proxies, ip addresses, port nos. and APNs that are provided by many websites, online forums etc to hack airtel is just fooling you and nothing more. They try to increase their traffic by posting it and most of them are simply "copy-paste" individuals.

Just type " Free Airtel GPRS " in Google search bar and see the results. More than 10 lacs result will be found and I'm damn sure that nothing will do good to you. These sites and forums simply cheat you and as said previously they do to increase the incoming traffic with so many links to it. Ya! due to this I preferred to keep the title to this post as "Free Airtel GPRS" so that some lucky persons like you click on it and gets educated about these pranks.

Though these pranks cannot lead to free Internet by airtel but there are many lucky ppl who are enjoying free Airtel GPRS(MO). This is not by the tricks, cheats or codes but infact there connection is not updated by the the Airtel. It normally occurs when you are in roaming or changes your handset during their server upgrading. It applies to those also whose haven't contacted Airtel Customer Care for more than 2 months.

Though I myself was not so lucky to have free gprs to my airtel sim but I must suggest some precautions to my reader who uses free Airtel GPRS.

• 1. Don't contact Airtel Customer Care.

• 2. Don't ever try dialing 12150 or 12120 from your Airtel sim in which you are accessing free gprs.

• 3. Try not to visit any Airtel websites both from your mobile and Desktop/Laptop.

• 4. Always ignore those advertisement sms that leads to downloading ringtones, wallpapers, 3gp videos etc. as those are Airtel live sites or relating to them such as http://hungama.com , http://mjoy.in etc as they record your ip address and can lead to your sim upgrading (for you its degradation and will lose ur free Internet accessing).

• 5. Try not to change your ip address in the cell.

• 6. Don't use proxies in Opera as well.

• 7. Try to use Tea Shark mobile browser including older version while browsing in mobile rather than Mobile's inbuilt browser for a longer free connectivity. Opera Mini and Bolt Browser were also a good option.

Thus if you try to follow these precautions, you can access freely for a longer period unless and until Airtel itself detects your connection for updating.
