Education.Com- A New Educational Portal

Education.Com- A New Educational Portal
26 July,2009 Aditya Bikram Singh

Education.com launches on 20th Jan 2007, ia a very new educational portal for parents who are truly concerned for their children. This is an useful website for student either. I know in India many, I mean majority of them belongs to middle class and unable to afford for the broadband connections. Still it would be helpful for the students and others in the field of education.
This got a premium domain name with a wide variety of content and community features that focus on helping parents play a more active role in their children’s education.
Current social features include discussion boards, groups, and photo galleries, all of which include tagging. Parents will likely find the tags the most useful feature, as they aggregate content from the different aspects of the site and link you to it. For example, viewing the “Reading” tag will link you to relevant articles, message board discussions, and user generated content.
The company sees a large opportunity in the space, citing a recent Harris Interactive poll showing that 74% of parents of children ages 18 and under said they wished they had a single resource they could turn to for information and answers about education and 96% of parents believe they need to take an active role in their children’s education. With a top notch domain name and a few sticky features, the company has a good opportunity to serve the pre-collegiate education market.
Unlike many of today’s startups that are forced to drop vowels and come up with funky names before seeking funding, Education.com actually started with the domain name and worked backwards. The Education.com domain was previously owned by Azure Capital, who then went out and found a team to build the site. Founder and CEO Ron Fortune is the former CEO of Edumetrics, an education software company.
